Learn about my process of uncovering the end-to-end experience of connected water products for residential homes. I spent a few months following around plumbers to gather motives, perceptions, tasks, and more to inform product/engineering design.

Why was are Student Union at Cornell University not friendly and inviting?
Why is our school so stressful and challenging?
Bailey and her co-founder, Daniel, created a team of interdisciplinary students knew that we could help solve these problems by changing the environmental and system design of our student union.
We earned funding from the Vice President for Student and Campus Life, competed and conducted design competitions on campus, and presented at several conferences at the Environmental Design Research Association (2018-2019).

1. TIMELINE
Whiteboards are my favorite way to display ideas!
The first day of our project [and until the last day of our internship], our team created and refined a design process that would ensure we solved the problem of a market HP, Inc. had yet to explore in-depth.
2. DIVERGENCE & CONVERGENCE STRATEGY
Our design process oscillated from; a broad spectrum of problems to defining one user-type; brainstorm multiple ideas to celebrating one working solution; forming intricacies of the user experience to presenting the most important pieces of the product.

4. DEMONSTRATE
On August 14, the HP Experience Design + Marketing intern team presented the final design in front of Home and Business Solutions. Our final design received an overwhelming amount of support and optimism for it's ability to step outside of the box of the "HP way" and deliver unique findings on a market they intend to design for in the future.
One day my team and I will be able to share pieces of our product with the rest of the world, patent pending.

Formula Society of Automotive Engineering Project Team - Ergonomic Subteam
Seat, Clutch Lever & Ergonomic Assessment Designs
In August of 2016, I was selected by Cornell Racing to design and manufacture the clutch lever system for ARG17 race car - formula 3 style model.
In February of 2017, I found an opportunity to conduct ergonomic assessments and heuristics to improve the ergonomic system for competition in May.
My team placed 8th overall (1st place in ergonomics) at Michigan International Speedway in 2017.
For ARG18 (2018 car) I'm redesigning the seat, firewall, and driver placement. My goal for this year is to have optimal evidence-based design which will be measured by driver performance and comfort.

Can angling the clutch lever handle to where it is aligned with the steering wheel improve comfort and productivity of the driver?
I used Autodesk Inventor Professional to sketch and CAD model the Clutch Lever system
I conducted a usability test that coded duration of operating the steering wheel, multiple levers and buttons.
After several Discomfort Questionnaires were conducted, the angle of the handle reduced discomfort in fingers and wrists.

Ergonomic Assessments
I adapted Cornell's Musculoskeletal Discomfort Questionnaire to cater to our driver's biomechanics and anatomy when driving. The below image displays the level of discomfort reported in 4 driver's before and after iterations had been conducted within the ergonomic system of the car (formative testing was used to cater toward personal drivers).

Defines driver dimensions and driving preference by using flexible components: steering, seat, and pedals. Holding the back, dash, and floor constant.
Investigating the roles of tactile/force feedback in motor control
Research Question:
Can people perform motor tasks faster and more accurate when both tactile and force feedback are available?
The usability test investigated tactile feedback in motor control of arm movements via a haptic video game controller
The results will be used to inform the development of virtual reality-based post-stroke rehabilitation devices
Novint Falcon Controller
Background
Many treatments have been developed for stroke patients to improve upper-limb motor functions
- conventional physical therapy
- transcranial magnetic cortical stimulation (TMS)
- Wii remote with tactile feedback rumbling

The Novint Falcon Controller was not a sufficient application of haptic feedback because it displayed to many usability errors.
Response time and control standardization are identified as important issues game developers should consider. My paper also discusses that while companies are now interested in usability, they do not yet have a formal method of achieving it.

How could I help improve the turnover rate for college community assistants (RA's)?
I pulled together a team of business majors to redefine the use of a mobile application;
Problem
52% turnover rate annually for Community Assistants in the Barrett, the Honors College housing division.
“It’s hard to remember all the website address off the top of my head, especially when I’m on a walk and want to notify ACC (maintenance) of an issue.
Please, create a space where all the websites are easy to find and use. That would eliminate confusion and save time.”

Guidebook was implemented as a prototype and free trial for the Barrett Community Assistants. The app was proven to increase transparency and improve communication overall.
The app is no longer being used due to my move to Cornell.
